Pride & Prejudice: a must-watch... for the fans of Jane Austen
There is no doubt that the book “Pride and Prejudice” is one of the most classic love stories. The novel was first published in 1813 and is the most-read Jane Austen book. So obviously, the movie, directed by Joe Wright and launched in 2005, was very expected.
The P&P movie was a friendly and condensed version of the story. On one side of the love story, Elizabeth was well-played by Keira Knightley, who translated the witty and determined character from the book. On the other side, David Matthew MacFadyen played Mr. Darcy in a more gothic way than was expected after reading the book. Mr. Darcy from the book seems to be a severe and polite man, but the actor plays him as a no-expression and boring man. But to conclude about the cast, it must be said that Lizzie’s sisters played humorous moments chasing to marry distinguished men.
Based on such a masterpiece, the movie could take more advantage of the soundtrack, bringing hits of the 21st century adapted to classical versions – as “Bridgerton” has been doing. It could grip the audience and make the love moments more heartbreaking. But one of the movie’s most absorbing aspects addresses the fascinating pictures of the countryside of England, being faithful to what was hoped for from the book. The costumes were also loyal to those expected from the 19th century.
The movie wins the heart of those who love romantic period movies and must be watched by those who like Jane Austen. But I confess that for others, the film can be monotonous. There is still room for new versions of P&P – and I’m hoping for it!
